Discovering (or Reclaiming) Your Authentic Self
There comes a point in life when you may pause and realize you have been wearing masks. The role you play at work. The expectations of family. The image you think you need to hold up in front of the world. Somewhere along the way, your authentic self gets tucked away under layers of “shoulds” and “supposed tos.”
But deep down, there is still a part of you that remembers. The version of you who laughs freely, speaks your truth, and feels at home in your own skin. Authenticity is not about being perfect, it is about being real.
Why Authenticity Slips Away
Authenticity can fade when you chase approval, avoid conflict, or carry the weight of comparison. Life transitions such as new jobs, motherhood, empty nests, or aging can amplify the question: Who am I now?
And yet, these very moments are invitations. Times of transition often hold the most powerful openings to rediscover who you truly are.
Your breath is a bridge back to your authentic self. It strips away distraction and reconnects you to the quiet truth inside. When you pause and breathe with intention, you create space to listen not to the noise of the world, but to your own inner wisdom.
Try This Breathwork Practice: The Clearing Breath
This simple practice helps release what no longer serves you and creates space for authenticity to rise.
Find Your Seat
Sit comfortably with your feet on the floor or rest back in a chair. Close your eyes if that feels safe.Ground Yourself
Place one hand on your chest and the other on your belly. Notice the natural rhythm of your breath.Inhale Clarity
Take a slow, steady inhale through your nose and into your belly, imagining you are breathing in light, truth, and clarity.Exhale Release
Exhale through your mouth with a gentle sigh, letting go of masks, tension, and anything that feels heavy.Repeat
Continue this pattern for 1 to 2 minutes. With each inhale, welcome in authenticity. With each exhale, release what is false.Close with Intention
Place both hands over your heart. Whisper softly: I am enough. I am home in who I am.
A Gentle Reminder
Reclaiming authenticity is not a one-time act. It is a practice. Each breath is an opportunity to peel back another layer and return to the truth of who you are.
If you feel called to explore authenticity more deeply, there are two powerful ways to step in. Group breathwork sessions create a safe, supportive space where you can breathe alongside others who are also releasing masks and rediscovering who they are. The shared energy of the group amplifies clarity and connection.
